Ted Williams rookies in a superb PSA EX-MT 6 holder. To date, PSA has only handled two other specimens, with this “1 of 1” heirloom only bested by a SOLE example! The SGC census report only lists a meager 5 encapsulated copies, an irrefutable testament to this incredibly rare Ted Williams World Wide Gum, Canadian Goudey V351 Premium Rookie Card versus its mainstream Play Ball peer.
In 1939, World Wide Gum switched things up, trading in its baseball cards for a set of collectible photos. The set is cataloged as V351 in the American Card Catalog. Fronts featured a picture of the player and his replica signature while cartoons and baseball tips occupied the backs, with lithographed in Canada printed on the bottom. With only 25 photos in the World Wide Gum set, Ted Williams’ 1939 World Wide Gum is easily the rarest and there are none on the market!!!!
Ted 'The Kid' Williams was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played his entire 19-year Major League Baseball career as a left fielder for the Boston Red Sox from 1939 to 1960. Nicknamed The Kid, The Splendid Splinter, Teddy Ballgame, and The Thumper, Williams is regarded as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, a nineteen-time All-Star, a two-time recipient of the American League Most Valuable Player Award, a six-time AL batting champion, and a two-time Triple Crown winner. He finished his playing career with a .344 batting average, 521 home runs, and a .482 on-base percentage, the highest of all time. His career batting average is the highest of any MLB player and ranks tied for 7th all-time with Billy Hamilton.
He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966, in his first year of eligibility. Williams managed the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers franchise from 1969 to 1972. In 1991 President George H. W. Bush presented Williams with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award bestowed by the United States government.
