1982....the year that Hasbro released 13 G.I. JOE action figures (not dolls as my wife called them in the previous post), and at 5 years old, I had them all, and played with them until the arms and legs started coming out of the sockets. Yes, many epic battles took place with these 3 3/4" action figures.
Vintage toys, especially Generation 1's, not only open the floodgates to the good'ol days, they're great pieces of decorative pop art AND safe investments (when done wisely).
So what is a Generation 1 toy... and why are they so expensive? Gen 1 toys are the first year of production for a specific item by G.I. JOE, Transformers, He-Man, Star Wars... you get the picture.
We all had them BUT none of us kept them! That there is the base of their desirability and worth – they were actually enjoyed and PLAYED with by kids, before anyone ever thought of them as investments, and before anyone could have foreseen their respective long-term franchise worth.
This is why toys in their original unopened packaging is ideal, in terms of value (but so sad in way because that means some kid had a pretty sh*tty childhood).
Bottom line – overall condition is a huge factor, as well as if it's complete (with all the accessories - these little pieces were always the first things to go MIA in the sandbox or shag carpeting). These little bells and whistles are more often than not worth more than the 'toy' itself.
Each toy does have legitimate variants, so do your homework and BEWARE of bootlegs boys and girls. When in doubt, buy from a reputable dealer such as RARE-T of course!!!

Jenn here. Jonathan's wife. So, this post is more for the gals - you'll totally understand this.
This Thanksgiving weekend was Jonathan's birthday, and for weeks I racked my brain for what gift to get him. It's hard shopping for guys as is, but this particular guy, he's extremely difficult to shop for.
When we first met...
....is something we hear everyday when someone walks into RARE-T.
And everyday I find myself pointing out the same thing....
Why, the f**k would you spend your hard earned money to decorate your home with mass produced junk from local big box stores, that have ZERO personality, and that are literally owned by everyone you know?!?
